The thyroid gland is a hormone-secreting gland located in the neck region. The thyroid gland makes 2 hormones and releases them into the bloodstream.   These hormones are called thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). T4 and T3 hormones play a role in regulating the speed of the body's metabolism. In hyperthyroidism (high fT3, fT4), metabolism speeds up, the heart rate increases and palpitations occur. Bowel movements also increase and diarrhea may develop. In hypothyroidism (low fT3, fT4), metabolism slows down, the heart rate decreases and bradycardia develops. Along with this,   bowel movements decrease and constipation occurs.

During working hours, you can visit our Nicosia or Kyrenia laboratory branches and have your tests done with a simple blood sample.
