Febrile rash illnesses are common and important in children. In many of them the causative agents are viruses and the illnesses are self-limiting. However, less common bacterial systemic diseases carry a life-threatening risk. The most dangerous conditions are meningococcemia and bacterial sepsis cases. In febrile rash illnesses, the most important step in diagnosis is the clinical examination. In many cases, a diagnosis can be reached directly through clinical examination. Many of them are illnesses with a maculopapular rash.
