Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12 is found in foods such as meat, fish, eggs and dairy products and is essential for blood cell production and the healthy functioning of the nervous system. It plays a role in cell renewal and DNA production. Adequate levels are important for preventing anaemia and nerve damage. Deficiency may cause fatigue, weakness, numbness or tingling in the hands and feet, forgetfulness and balance problems. B12 deficiency can result not only from inadequate nutrition but also from malabsorption. The cause of the deficiency should therefore be investigated, and appropriate treatment should be determined by a physician.
