Alex Allergy Test

Comprehensive allergy assessment with a single blood sample

What is the ALEX3 test?

ALEX³ is the third generation of the test. It has a panel of 300 allergens covering clinically important allergen sources and 85 allergen families. The panel contains 218 molecular allergens, 106 of which are unique to this test. This is the broadest range of molecular allergens on the market.

By improving diagnostic quality, ALEX³ contributes to personalized, evidence-based treatment planning for each patient.

What is examined in the panel?

The panel covers a wide range of allergens, including pollens, house dust mites, animals, molds, foods and the venoms of insects such as bees. Foods include allergens associated with milk, egg, wheat, nuts, legumes and seafood. ALEX3 also evaluates more than 218 molecular allergen components. The updated panel includes additional targets such as pine nut, oak pollen and some new food and bee venom components.

What does molecular analysis provide? For example, when a positive result is obtained for a food, the test does not merely show the name of the food; it can also help understand which protein the sensitivity is associated with. This information guides your doctor in distinguishing some cross-reactions.

Why is the ALEX3 test done?

Your doctor may request ALEX3 if multiple allergens are suspected, if existing test results do not explain your complaints, or if cross-reactions between foods and pollens need to be evaluated. The results may also contribute to planning allergy treatment in suitable patients.

How is the sample given?

At Wellcare Laboratories, a blood sample is taken from the arm. The test is run on the serum obtained from this sample.

When will the result be ready?

In Eurofins Biomnis's ALEX test guide, the analysis time is stated as approximately 2 weeks. The total time may vary because of sample shipment; when you give your sample, you will be informed of the estimated delivery date.

The results should be evaluated together with your doctor. The detection of IgE against an allergen does not necessarily mean that the allergen causes symptoms in you. Diagnosis is made together with your complaints, your medical history and, when necessary, other tests.
