What is AffinityMap?

AffinityMap is a genetic test that evaluates the possible compatibility between the mother-to-be's KIR genes and the HLA‑C genetic characteristics the embryo inherits from the mother and father. The mother-to-be's KIR genes and the HLA‑C characteristics of the couple or donors are assessed together according to the pregnancy plan and type of treatment.

Who Can It Be Recommended For?

It may be considered by the physician especially for couples with a history of recurrent pregnancy loss or recurrent implantation failure; for those with a history or risk of preeclampsia; and in treatments where an egg, sperm or embryo donor is being evaluated. Whether the test is needed should be decided based on personal history and the treatment plan.

What does it mean for pregnancy success?

The test provides information about certain genetic characteristics that may be associated with KIR/HLA‑C matching. On its own, it does not show whether a pregnancy will or will not occur, and it does not guarantee pregnancy or a live birth. Results should be evaluated together with other clinical findings by an obstetrician-gynaecologist or infertility specialist. In recurrent implantation failure, an evidence-based evaluation of the recommended investigations and additional tests is important.

When should it be done?

It is preferably done before pregnancy planning or IVF treatment, so that the results can be used when evaluating the treatment plan or donor selection. There is no need to wait for a specific day of the menstrual cycle; the test is performed on a blood sample.
