Intestinal Microbiota Test

What is the Intestinal Microbiota Test?

Interest in the intestinal microbiota has continuously increased over the past decade.

Scientific studies conducted worldwide have revealed that we live in symbiosis with the microorganisms that make up our microbiome.

This permanent and reciprocal biological relationship between the microbiota and our organism is beneficial for both parties and plays an important role in maintaining our digestive, metabolic, and neurological functions.

Under certain conditions, an imbalance in the composition of the microbiota may be observed, meaning there may be an increase or decrease in the proportion of bacteria that should normally be present. This condition is called dysbiosis. It is believed that the disruption of this balance in the intestinal microbiota may be responsible for conditions such as depression, obesity, and chronic inflammatory diseases.

Therefore, maintaining the balance of the intestinal microbiota is important for the following reasons:

  1. - Ensuring that its functions are carried out properly;
  2. - Limiting its involvement in metabolic, digestive, or other pathologies.

To achieve this, it is necessary to know the composition of the microbiota; otherwise, it will not be possible to detect possible imbalances or the presence of pathogens.

In this context, by mapping the intestinal microbiota, we can analyze your gut microbiota.

What can we expect from the results of the Intestinal Microbiota Test?

The intestinal microbiota mapping test provides the following:

  1. - Identification and distribution of the bacteria that make up your microbiota;
  2. - Detection of pathogenic bacteria* in your microbiota, if necessary;
  3. - Observation of dysbiosis.

Once dysbiosis is identified and detected, it is possible to balance the microbiota and improve your condition by changing your diet or taking probiotics.

This test cannot detect all human pathogenic bacteria.

Who is the Intestinal Microbiota Test suitable for?

This test is suitable for:

  1. - Those who are simply curious;
  2. - Individuals suffering from pathologies (diabetes, obesity, depression, irritable bowel syndrome, etc.);
  3. - Those following a specific and selective diet that may alter the microbiota;
  4. - Individuals undergoing medical treatments (antibiotics, chemotherapy, etc.).

How is the Intestinal Microbiota Mapping Test done?

Intestinal microbiota analysis is done using a stool sample because studies have shown that the composition of microorganisms in our stool is comparable to that in our colon.

The Latest Technology at Your Fingertips

The test is based on the sequencing of a common gene (16S) to identify all the bacteria in the intestine simultaneously from the stool sample. The sequencing results are analyzed by microbiota experts to determine the condition of your microbiota.

Test duration: 4-6 weeks

Test type: Stool sample
Method: NGS (Next-Generation Sequencing)
