Helicobacter Pylori
Helicobacter pylori is an infectious bacterium found in the stomach and is found in approximately half of the world’s population.
Most people with chronic gastritis or duodenitis have no symptoms. However, some people also develop more serious problems. Like stomach or duodenal ulcers… Ulcers may show different symptoms or no symptoms at all. The most common ulcer symptoms due to Helicobacter pylori are:
• Pain or discomfort
• Bloating
• Feeling full after eating a small amount
• Anorexia
• Nausea or vomiting
• Dark or tarry stools
• Tiredness
• Low red blood cells due to bleeding
• Diarrhea
• Heartburn
• Frequent burping
• Involuntary weight loss
• Bad breath odor
Rarely, chronic gastritis causes abnormal changes in the stomach lining. In rare cases, this can lead to certain forms of cancer. People with H. pylori infection at an early age are at higher risk of developing stomach cancer.
The diagnosis of Helicobacter pylori can be made easily with endoscopy (gold standard) or stool tests, and it can be treated with a 10 -14 day drug use.
